The Schallenberger
Family Struture
Here we present the working hypothesis that Hans SCHALLENBERGER and Anna BIGLER of Worb Dorf, Canton Berne, Switzerland emigrated to PA on the ship Queen of Denmark in 1751 and were the parents of Johannes, Barbara, Anna, Michael, Catherine and Magdalena SCHALLENBERGER.
So far we only know for sure that John SHALLENBERGER's 1814 will says that Michael is his only brother and that Barbara YODER and Catherine GEIMAN are his sisters.
We infer that Anna (SHELLENBERGER on her tombstone) was also a sister, and that Magdalena was also a sister. John is buried in the Lehn cemetery in Manheim township. His tombstone says Johannes SCHALLENBERGER age 83.
The Passenger list of the Queen of Denmark has Jacob YODER next to Hans SCHALLENBERG. We believe that Jacob Yoder is the future husband of Barbara SHALLENBERGER and that Hans SCHALLENBERG is either John brother of Michael or Hans the ASSUMED! father of our family.
There is still a large gap between what we know and what we are assuming, but we hope to converge on the truth as more data become available.

_____________________________________________________________________The
Family of Christian RUPP of Earl Township, Lancaster County Pennsylvania
husband of Anna, sister of Michael SHALLENBERGER
The brothers Christian and John RUPP of Earl Twp Lancaster Co were closely associated with Michael SHALLENBERGER. All three of them probably arrived on the ship "Brotherhood" 3Nov1750. The origin of the family of the RUPP brothers in Europe is unknown. There are many RUPPs near Eppingen in the Kraichgau, from where the ancestor of the Lancaster County historian RUPP came. There are also RUPPs in Berne Canton SWITZ and among those living as refugees in France during the early 1700s.

This pattern of migration, leaving the
Emmenthal in 1735, living for two decades
in the Jura Mountains or some other place
in exile and emigrating to Pennsylvania
in the early 1750's is what we expect to be
the pattern for the Johannes

Hello, I am a Belgian,(with an Italian father), but my grandmother
(mother's side) was Elisabeth Schallenberg. A far family member made the whole
geneology book for the family Schallenbergh in Belgium from 1720 until now, but
their ancestors are the counts of Schallenberg in Austria. They received their
title in 1180, and had a castle there. I wonder if you know this, and if you are
interested. I don't know if we are family of you, but I know that between 1914
and 1940 a Frans Schallenbergh (an uncle of my grandmother) went to the US,
(California, Texas or sth. ) but we have lost all contact with his children. Do
you think it is easy to find something about that in the US or Canada?
Thanks, many regards
Adriano
___Hi All, I don't know the exact spelling of the surname of the man whose
ancestry and desc's I'm trying to find, but in my family records he is Thomas
SHORNBURGER and in the 1850 census from Springhill, Fayette Co PA he is
SHELLENBERGER. I'm assuming my family records are in error. Thomas S m Mary
LEWIS Oct 30 1844 and the census gives the following children, William age 4,
Harriet age 2 and Oscher (Osker?) 3 months. Thomas is a blacksmith. Mary is the
si of my ancestor John Perry Lewis and is said to be 28 in the census (Thomas
was 26) but she was actually 29. I have a great deal of data on the LEWIS part
of this family I'm willing to share for data on Thomas' ancestors and his desc's.
Hope to hear from someone researching this family. Betsey

Thomas S was b , prob Fayette Co PA in abt 1824 (based on 1850 census for
Springhill, Fayette PA) and m Mary LEWIS on Oct 30 1844. The 1850 lists Thomas,
Blacksmith, as age 26 and Mary 28, along with their children William 4, Harriet
2 and Oscker 3 months. Mary is si of my grgrgrfa John Perry LEWIS and I'd like
to find out more about her husband and children. The family may have moved to
Knox Co OH after 1850. Many of Mary's sibs moved there in the 1830's and 40's.
If this is your family, I have a great deal of LEWIS data to share.

Does anyone have any information on Jane Shallenberger who married Jacob Johns?
They were living at Johnstown when my ggrandmother was born in 1834. They were
living in Huntingdon, PA when Mary J. Johns was born in 1830.
Any information would be appreciated. I am at a brick wall here on Jacob and
Jane. Thanks.
have the 1793 Will of a John Shallenberger which was proved at Fayette Co., PA.
I picked up this Will when I was searching for the father of my g,g,grandmother
Mary (Shallenberger) Barringer.
Now that I know that Mary's father, Christian Shallenberger, also lived in
Fayette Co., I wonder if this John may have been either a brother of Christian
or his father.
The only names in the Will are his children David, Abraham, and Barbara. While
much is left to his wife, she is only listed as wife with no given first name.
Given the numbers of children that people had in those days, a good guess could
be that there were other children who were not named in the Will.
Can someone on the forum shed some light re this John Shallenberger?
Marilyn; marjenp@mindspring.com.
Just learned that the parents of my g,g,grandmother, Mary (Shallenberger)
Barringer b. 1793, were CHRISTIAN SHALLENBERGER and wife CATHERINE ? It appears
that Christian was living in the area of Connellsville, Fayette Co., PA at the
time of his death. Do not know where Christian was born. My guess would be most
likely eastern or mid PA.
Those signing the deed as heirs of Christian Shallenberger, deceased in 1832
were:
Abraham Shallenberger and Betsy,his wife.
Henry Bucher and Barbara (Shallenberger), his wife.
Eliza (Shallenberger) Wallick. ( Possibly widowed).
Peter White and Catherine (Shallenberger), his wife.
Christian Shallenberger, Jr. and Catherine (Crosser), wife.
Joseph Rotrock and Martha (Shallenberger), his wife.
George Berringer (now Barringer)& Mary (Shallenberger), wife.
Isaac Shallenberger and Catherine, his wife.
George Shallenberger
Frances Shallenberger (believed married to a Marshall)
John Shallenberger.
Note: George Barringer and Mary Shallenberger were my g,g,grandparents.
Hope someone on the forum will recognized the above people and can add addition
information.

I am not totally sure of the date. I know that they had a daughter Eliza in
1873. Eliza married Henry Conner. I believe that they were in either western PA
or eastern OH. I have a picture of some of the Steeles that was taken in Pomeroy
OH in 1905. Any info or possible leads would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

am looking for Rebecca Shallenberger who was born about 1820 in PA or OH. She
was my fourth ggrandmother. She married a David ??. The death certificate of her

Venango, Crawford, or Armstrong County in PA, but Mary and Rufus died in
Washington County, PA. I would appreciate any help you can give me. I have just
started to get interested in this area and find it fascinating. I really
appreciate all the info that appears in these forums and commend those that
spend so much time trying to help others find their roots.

Hi,
You are probably not ready for this but most of the Shallenbergers in FayetteCo
PA were descended from John son of Ulrich S. of Hempfield Twp, Lancaster Co PA.
Before 1750 there were 3 Shallenberger families in Hempfield and Manor Twps in
western LancasterCo PA. Books have been written about each and their
descendants.
Ulrich and Hans George came to PA in 1727 and Peter came in 1732. Descendants of
Peter's son Jacob were also in FayetteCo PA. There is disagreement about how
they were related and where they came from. I believe they were all sons of Hans
Schallenberg of Ste Marie-aux-Mines, Upper Alsace France, who was probably a
Mennonite refugee from the Emmenthal east of Bern SWITZ. Hans appears in the
1703 and 1708 lists of inhabitants. It is said that Ulrich was born in 1690 and
he shows up there in 1708, but Hans Georg was probably younger and Peter was
born in 1699. Others claim they lived in the Krachgau of Baden GERM, but all
versions claim they were Swiss. We have them as unconnected Shallenbergers on
our website
<http://revolution.3-cities.com/~gjansen/shallen.htm>
In his book Richard W. Davis has them living in the Kraichgau but hooked into
the Emmenthal Schallenberger family tree.
I hope this helps. There is a website with some of the Shallenberger books.

My John was born about 1851. I know he was in
Stark County,Ohio in 1880. But census state he was born in PA. Both parents born

I have a John Shollenberger (I have seen it spelled three ways) in my family

Ooops!
Registration(baptism) of John Shallenberger of Worb at Signau in 1731 was as
Hans_Ulli son of Johannes Schallenberger and Anna Bigler. In 1751 he was
probably taxed and owned 100 acres of land in Earl Twp, Lancaster Co PA as Ulli.
After the father Johannes died it was customary for the oldest son to have the
option to take the name of the father Johannes in Germany. I have seen the name
Johannes passed on through
four generations in this way in records of Loetzbeuren on the Hunsruck in the
Rheinland. Given names of Johann Daniel, Johann Peter, etc were discarded and
replace with Johannes when the father died.
Any info on Johannes Shellenberger born 1772 married Elizabeth and moved to York
Co. PA circa 1801. They had children before 1800.

Hello all,
My great, great grandmother, Mariah Frank Shellenberger, was born in Michigan or
Ohio in June of 1844, 1846, or 1848 and died on 6/1/1937 in Greenwood or
Fairfield Township, Crawford County, PA. She married Jacob H. Peterson
(1837-1906) and is buried in the Peterson Cemetery, which my family maintains.
I've been able to find out almost nothing else about her. I don't even know
where the "Frank" comes from.
According to her obituary, she had a sister Anna and a brother William. The 1880
census of West Fairfield Township, Crawford County, PA shows her mother, listed
only as "Shallinbager, mother-in-law [of Jacob], 62, born in PA",
living with them at the time.
I have access to some great photos of her, but I have no idea even who her
parents were. Please help!

1797, possibly in Lancaster PA. About 1807 he came to Ohio (first Greene Co.),

Abraham, Margaret, Nicholas, Henry, Andrew, Benjamin, Samuel, and Susannah. He
spent some of the 1840s in Delaware Co. Indiana, then returned to Miami Co., OH.
Where can I get a copy of this book.
This book has lots of my family enclosed. I am studing Shellenberger's and

I have pictures of Effie Shellenbarger - from probably late 1800s or early 1900s
from Council Bluffs Iowa. Other names mentioned on one of the pictures are
Thresa Sullivan and Ruth Simmons. These were sent to a Ruth Simmons in Bolckow,
Mo. Will be happy to mail to anyone with a connection.
This name sounds very familliar to me. I heard I had a 2nd great grandmother
Effie. I am wondering if this could be her. I would love to see the picture.
Could you please send me one. Thank you Jennifer
I will try scanning and forwarding this picture and another one where Effie is
identified along with Ruth Simmons and Theresa Sullivan all of Council Bluffs,
Iowa. These pictures were in with another group all dated 1913 - 1914.

members of the family later lived in the Beaver City, NE area. His father is
believed to have been Henry Shellenbarger (Schellenberger), b: 1785 in Lancaster

I am looking for any infromation on John Shellenbarger and his family.
John was born about 1730 and died about 1819. He was married twice. First to a
Barbara ? and Second to a Susanna ? . John and Barbara I believe were married in
Switzerland and at least one of their children was born in Switzerland. Their
children are: David, Peter, Johannes, Catherine, and Mariah. John was a
clockmaker. At one time one of my relatives had one of his clocks. John's son
David married Barbara Eyre (B: 12-26-1773 & D: 5-18-1846). David and
Barbara's children were: David, John, Anna, Isaac, Christian, Jacob, Emanuel,
and Catherine. Would love to have information on any one listed.
There is a lot of information about John the Clockmaker at the
Shellenberger researchers homepage:
<http://www.posom.com/Shellenberger/index.shtml>
I am sure you will find what you need there. This is my line: Johannes, Peter,
Joseph, Joseph, William, then Hazel who was my grandmother.
I am looking for a Catherine Shellenbarger whose dates could make her the
daughter of John and his first wife. I know nothing about her except her married
name: Kauffman. Do you have any more information about John's children? or
grandchildren?
have a Catherine Shellenberger she was born 12/29/1829. She married John D.
Kauffman on 3/7/1847.
She was the daughter of John Shellenberger and Mary "Polly" Stock.
John was the son of Peter Shellenberger. Peter was the son of John the
clockmaker.
I do have more information on her if you would like it.
I think that your Catherine is the one I am looking for. I have her birthdate as
12/29/1830, but I'm sure its the same Catherine, esp. with her married to John
Kauffman.
What else can you tell me about her? I looked on the Shellenberger website for
John the clockmaker, but didnt know where to look. Any help would be
appreciated.
I am REALLY excited to have found her. Several of my family members have been
looking for her for a long time. Thank you so much for any help you can give.
I have a Catherine Shellabarger as one of John's Children. However, I do
not have any dates for her. But I do have her marrying Peter Evey(or Edy). This
information came from "Burchard's Table of Four Generations from John
Shallenberger the Clockmaker Immigrant of 1754". The other children of John
Shellenberger and Barbara:
Peter: born bef 1754 in Switzerland
John: born 10-15-1764 and died 7-20-1830. Married Salome Rush on 12-6-1789.
David: born 1770
Maria: born 1762 and married Christian Graybill.
To be honest Catherine is the only on of the children I have no information on.
Let me know if you need any more information or what info. you are interested
in. I hope this helps.
Katie Sowers
Well, the Catherine that I am looking for has to have been married to a Kauffman,
and early enough in her life to have produced 11 children with him.
Doesnt sound like this is the right one. It is complicated a little by all the
different spellings of Shellenbarger. How would I get a copy of the book that
you referred to?
I am looking for info on my great aunt, born Isabelle Wyatt 21 May 1891 in

He was born 14 June 1883. They moved to Lancaster, LA Co, California and William
died in Feb 1972, Isabelle in June 1969. Did they have children? Who were
William's parents? Was William from Ohio? Any information would be great.
Does anyone connect to the Henry Shellenberger family in Polk Co Mo?

Glenda, Sorry unable to help you. My family was Shellenberger. Someone may have

have tried hard to find you to no avail. glad we finally conected.
I knew Ed and Theolinda personally and visited them at their home. Ed was son of
Ulrich and Sarah Amanda Spangler Shellenberger. To the best of my recolections
Ed and Theolinda had 9 issues.
Ulrich and Sarah also had 9. I have much more, we should get together soon and
review our findings.

My job here in Washington, DC, requires me to spend time in Gulfport, MS,
which is where I've been for a few weeks. I have notkept up with e-mail traffic.
Are you sure we are talking about the same Edward and Theolinda - you said you
visited them at their home. My best guess is they married in 1890, and I think
Edward died in the 1940s. Does this sound like the same couple you remembered.
If so, I'm fascinated - how did you know them - did you know any of their
children? Do you currently live in York - I try to make it to York at least
twice a month - so maybe we can have lunch. One of my most treasured possession
is a photo alblum that my grandmother left me which has pictures of the Green
Hill Shellenberger clan. I'm sure Edward is on one of the pitures. I also have a
picture of Theolinda.
Please respond. Thanks for your efforts to reach me.
Uncle Edward is the brother of my grandfather, David, I visited Edward and
Theolinda with my grandfather many times, I beleive it was on Dallas St. in
York, PA. Yes I live near York, Mt. Wolf, PA.
Edward and Theolinda had nine issues, Josephine, Rose, Roy, Paul, Eugene, Pius,
Mary, Anna, Agnes. My search on this family goes back to the 15th. century.
I would love to meet you however I will be going to the Hospital for bypass
surgery on 9-11-01. So give me a rain check on the lunch.
First, I hope all went well with your surgery. My prayers are with you.
Your info was definitely on target.
My mother Josie (Mary's daughter) was born on Dallas Street
on July 12th 1924. I'm a little confused with the nine names you provided. I
hadn't hear the name Eugene - did he die at a young age? Also your list didn't
mention Maguerite (but you did mention Agnes). Maguerite married
John Dauber (Dauber Nursery on North George Street). There son Johnny (never
married) died in Jan of l999. Josephine's (Gramma Mary's sister) son Neil is
still living. The only two siblings of my mother (Josephine) are William Harry
who lives in York, and Francis who lives in Connecticutt in the summer and St.
Petersbury in the winter.
Please let me know when your well enough to do lunch. I would love to meet you
and discover my past. Please keep in touch.
I am searching for details/proof about my ancestors, who are thought to have
been Elizabeth SHALLENBERGER (possibly a
daughter of Christian SHALLENBERGER of Pennsylvania, who might have been the son
of Jacob and a grandson of Ulrich) and John Abraham WALLICK. The WALLICKs
originated in Switzerland.
Elizabeth (SHALLENBERGER) and John Abraham WALLICK's sons were supposedly
Abraham (my 2GG, probably born in Ohio, Indiana, near Switzerland Co. ca 1815),
Christian, Samuel, & John.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

This is some history of our Great Grandparents. Their named were Abraham and

illness, ague, which comes from the swampy dampness due to so many lakes. They
later went back to Michigan but our Grandparents, David and Hannah Danburry

Some years later Sarah died and Abraham decided to come back to Pennsylvania. He
got as far as Williamsfield, Ohio and took sick and died. He was buried there by

I am seeking information on Fuller Shellenberger. He was from the Jersey Shore
area of Lycoming County, Penns. He lived there in the late 1800's - early 1900's.

I am looking for info on Anna Shellnberger. Her fathers name was possibly
Jacob?? She was born May 1833 or 1835? She married Samuel Weller. Samuel went
off to the civil war and desserted her and 2 children. She married Jacob Kopf in
Columbia, Lancaster Co, PA.
Looking for parents and siblings of CHRISTINA SNELLENBERGER [various spellings].
CHRISTINA was born 3 November, 1810 in Pennsylvania, county unknown. She married
JOHN WESLEY FORDING 15 October 1828, Columbiana County, Ohio. They later moved
to Indiana.
My Uncle was ALBERT SHELLENBERGER. He married my aunt, Lois Smithwick in 1943 or
44. All I have on him is that he came from OK., or Colo. There is some
speculation that the family may have had some indian in the line. Also that the
name may have been German or Dutch. Recently I have learned that there is a Park
in Marrietta, OK that bears the name "Shellengerger." Jack, as he was
called, had a sister named Dorthy. Uncle Jack died in Dallas Tx in 1959 of colon
cancer. Afterward the families lost touch.
I show a cousin in our Shellenbarger line named Albert born 1881. His mother
died in Henryetta, Okmulgee, OK in 1931. His father was Daniel M. Shullenbarger
1842-1910.
Some of Albert's siblings lived later in life in Missouri. This Albert might be
your Albert's father? I have no other information at this time about Albert b.
1881.
I forgot to mention that our Shellenbarger's also made secret mention of
Indian blood lines. I have not made any firm connections though.
John and Rosanna Shellenbarger of Shelby Co. Ohio had 3 sons and 2
daughters. The family came to the US in 1852 from Wurtemburg, Germany. We have
information on sons Christian and John. We need information of daughters Rosanna
and Catherine and son Gotleib. Any information would be appreciated.
My GGG-Grandfather's name was John Shellenbarger. I have found him listed in the
1860 Miami County, Ohio census, but could not find him in a 1850 census in Ohio.
I was wondering if my John could be the son that you mentioned. John was married
to Eliza Connelly and they had 3 sons: Thomas Jefferson, John H., and Oscar.
John died January 25, 1865 from wounds he received at the battle of Beverly,
West Virginia.

Rebecca, My John Shellenbarger came to the US in 1852 living for a short time in
Logan Co, Ohio then settling in Shelby Co. John was married to Rosina C. Meisch
Shellenbarger. They had four children, John, Christian, Catherine and Rosanna.
I have a Catherine Shellenbarger whose birthplace was Germany but lived in
Shelby County, OH. She married John Shie also born in Germany but lived in
Shelby Co., OH They had several children. George Shie b. 5-30-1872 in Sidney,

Sophia Shie born 1859 in Shelby Co., OH and died in 1941 in Piqua, OH. Sophia
married Frank Schimmel in Shelby Co., OH in 1881.
I hope this is the same Catherine Shellenbarger and I've been of help. There
were several other brothers and sisters of George and Sophia, but I don't have
them on hand.
Elizabeth Schelleberger married Peter Young 4 Aug 1789 in Lancaster PA.
They are recorded as from Manorland(probably Manor Township). The marriage is
recorded in the 1st Reformed Church in Lancaster City. Who are Elizabeth's
parents? In the mid 1790s they moved to York Co. where Peter died ca 1798
leaving a widow with 4 small children.
William M Shellenbarger was born December 23, 1863. He married Nevada Bellas,
[born November 28, 1869], on May 6, 1888. Will and his brother, John, decided to
migrate to the Oklahoma Territory and homestead, near Bixby, Oklahoma, close to
the Arkansas River. Their children were: Solomon, Charles,Mary, Frank, Etta,

ne have any information? Researching Charles' line.
Glenda, I have very little info about the Shellenbargers but do you know
if john and will had a sister? She was born in Ohio in 1857. I know she had 2
younger brothers named John and Will, I don't know their birth years. I have
just started searching for the Shellenbargers. I think Sarah and her husband
moved to Pawhauska, OK because her daughter was married there. Please let me
know. Thanks

"frontiersmen, he said it right. They always moved ahead of the main
migration of people going west or into the uninhabited land. ((including
crossing Donner's pass before the Donner party did))" This is about the
greatest proof we can get that our ancestor Abraham I born l809-l8l0 was the son

Hello,
Recently started a study on my father's family. I had hit so many blanks while
searching for Abe's father's name and where they are buried. Thanks for your
post.
Also I am wondering if you know where I could order a copy of Sarah Jane
Beemish's publication on the family. My mother has a copy, and years ago I
ordered one that was lost in the mail. I was young and never followed through. I
am almost certain that Sarah is deceased after all these years. If, by some
miracle she isn't, would you know how to contact her or any one in her family to
find info on this book. I am the ggg grandaughter of Abe and Dorthy Doyle.
Thanks again for this wonderful info you posted.
Nancy
Dear Nancy:
Yes, Sarah died many years ago in the state of Washington where she went to be
with her son/grandson, I am not certain. She suffered Alzheimers before she
died. She made many, many mistakes in her book, however, she did accomplish so
very much in that she wrote what she found and preserved it for posterity. If
nothing else, it serves as a guide for the rest of us to pursue. I believe Ft.
Wayne Library has a copy of it. I will check my records, I do too, I have
pneumonia at the moment and am very illl but when I recover, will check my
records and get you a copy.
Please send me your physical address so that I may mail it if I find it. I am

many, many different lines that I came across. I just wanted them published, so
much of our mutual Shellenbarger Family is in it. I have reduced the price to
$25.00. It includes my
Staley family primarily, but there is mich in the 403 pages which pertains to
the Shellenbargers and their origin. Joan Keller.
I would also be interested in the books published on the Shellenberger family.
The one by Sarah Beamish and the one compiled by Joan Keller.
Please let me know where I may get copies.
Thanks!
BDear Joan,
I have found a picture of Austin and Mable Shellenbarger, just not sure where in
the family they fit in. Do you know about them? Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Also found the obituary notice from the newspaper of Elvira's (my
grandmother)father. It is quite informative and gives dates.
Thanks in advance.

A gentleman e-mailed me and I cannot find his e address or who he was with
regard to the parentage of Abraham Shellenbarger I. In a letter from Martin
Shellenbarger , from Toulon, Illlinois September l5,l87l, he stated"Ulrich,
son of Abraham was born Jan. 3,l690 and died Feb. l768. He emigrated from
Switzerland and came to Lancaster Co. Pa. in the Spring of l720. He was
accompanied by John Strickler who was his brother in law. His wife, Catharina
Barbara Dorothea was the sister of Strickler. They were Mennonites in religion
and selected Lancaster Co. for their residence because some of their country
people who were of the same faith had already established themselves there.
Ulrich was my great, great, grandfather. He had three sons: JOHN:HENRY :ISAAC
John was my great great grandfather and was born in Switzerland in l7ll and died
in Fayette Co. Pa. Jan. l795. John had two sons David and Abraham. Abe was my
grandfather and was born in Lancaster Co. (sic) My great grandfather, John,
crossed the mountains into Fayette Co., Pa. in l794. My father Jacob was born
May 6,l79l and died May ll, l843 in this state. I was born Dec. 3,l825. As I
have stated my great grandfather had two brothers,HENRY and ISAAC.The children
of Henry were FRONTIERSMEN and went into the wilderness of the country west of
Pittsburgh about l800 (OHIO). There was a large family of them but few were ever
married so that the race is about extinct. The descendants of Isaac are still
east of the mountains in Pennsylvania, unlless some of the younger ones have
strayed West which is very likely."

Ione Shellenbarger and Edward L. Houghton were my ggrandparents. Their son
George L. Houghton was my grandfather. I don't have anything past Phillip b.
1770, married to Mary Ann Keller. I never met my grandfather but I knew Aunt
Vernie, and also Aunts Elsie, Alta and Clara from Edward L.'s second marriage to
Katie Elsie Chase. I have lost contact with this part of my family since my
mother, Georgia Houghton Harris, passed away in 1982. Would love to hear from
you. Pam
Dear Pam,
Your mother and I exchanged long letters. We met once when we passed thur Utah.
She was great. Matthew Houghton should have these records. I have never been
able to contact him. It was always the wrong address. I have a large cabinet
made by Ione's father, and given to Susie Belle has a wedding gift. I got a lot
of this info from Clara (great-aunt) she is 92 now. my grandmother Susie Belle
and your grandfather were sister and brother. email me
My grandfather was Everett Lee Shellenbarger, grandson to Peter Samuel
Shellenbarger (John Peter Shellenbarger was Everett's father.) John was married
to Catharina Leona (or Leona Katherine) Gray. They were divorced and Leona then
married George Leon Houghton who was John Peter's nephew. I am trying to get
more information on Peter Samuel. I show his father as being either Tobias who
married Mary, or Peter who married Elizabeth. Any help out there?
Pat Decano
Hi, Pam,
I think you can see info that another
researcher has posted on Peter Samuel
Shellenbarger at www.ancestry.com
I also have a printout from WFT CD#5 which
states the lineage as
Philip Shellenbarger b) 1770
Tobias Shellenbarger b) 1806
Peter Samuel b) 1830
and then begins with collateral lines
of Ione Shellenbarger b) 1859 married Edward
Houghton. Account runs to private info of
Mark Thompson and Glenda Long (These individuals apparently living).
Good luck and GOD BLESS! Bob boblin@bright.net

Looking for the family of J. Maonroe or C. Shellenberger b. c.1879 who m. Carrie
Y James b.c. 1881 around Doylestown, Bucks Co. PA
I have an Abraham Shellenberger that was born in 1824 in Ohio. He supposedly
died before 1899 in Williamsfield Ohio. His wife Sara was born in PA around 1820
and died around 1899 in MI. I think this family was around the Colon or Sherwood
area in MI. They had the following children:
Wilson
Peter
David
Isiaha
Anna
Polly or Mary
Franklin
John
Silas
John was my ancestor who married Carrie Maynard.
This family I believe has origins in Meadville, PA as that was where John was
born.
Have more on the children, but not much more on the parents.

I have two Abraham Shellenbargers (Shellenbers) who were born in Ohio and died
in Elsie, Michigan. It is possible Abraham Sr. was born In Lancaster, Pa. as
most of the Shellenbargers came from there. Many, many came into Michigan.
Abraham Sr. had a first wife, I know not. His second wife, whom he married in
Ohio was Dorothy Doile, a Delaware Indian. His son Abraham also came into
Michigan, he married Rachel Metcalfe,, they lived in Southern Mi.for awhile,
then moved to Lake Odessa area, then up into Gratiot Co. I will look in their
file and see if I have another Abraham. I know that my Solomon had a brother,
Abraham.
I am wondering whether or not my Abraham Shellenberger could have been married
twice. When did your Rachel Metcalf die? My Abraham married Sarah Miller in
1845. It just seems too coincidental that two Abraham Shellenbergers were in
lower Michigan at about the same time.
Let me know what you think.
